After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Palm Bay, the Eau Gallie Commodores were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Rockledge out 24-21. That's another feather in the cap for Eau Gallie, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading Eau Gallie to victory were Avi Johnson and Alayna Lherisse. Johnson scored no points along with nine rebounds, while Lherisse scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Lherisse has scored at least a third of Eau Gallie's points.
Despite the loss, Rockledge still got an impressive performance from Jaida Williams-Goins, who scored 18 points along with nine steals. Williams-Goins is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Rockledge struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Eau Gallie is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. As for Rockledge, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eau Gallie won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Rockledge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cocoa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cocoa presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Rockledge in Florida (Cocoa is ranked 148th, while Rockledge is ranked 432nd).
