The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons will face off against the Westville Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley: they have been struggling with 12 straight losses at home, while Westville has snatched up nine consecutive wins on the road.
Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley managed to slip by Centennial the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Falcons lost 8-2 to the Chargers on Thursday.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westville). They never let Chrisman get on the board and left with a 23-0 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 21 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Layla Atwood was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had over her last five matchups. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Peyton Sabalaskey was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Daylin Zaayer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Westville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chrisman only posted an OBP of .250.
Westville's victory bumped their record up to 26-5. As for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-16.
Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley couldn't quite get it done against Westville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
