The Robinson Bulldogs will square off against the West Rowan Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Robinson took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Carson, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs skirted past the Cougars 3-2. The game was the first time the Bulldogs have beaten the Cougars on their field since April 5, 2024.
Robinson's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Aury Greenfield, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
West Rowan came out on top against Central Cabarrus on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Falcons put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 11-1 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Eli Graham looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brice Knox was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Ponczka, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
West Rowan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Cabarrus only posted an OBP of .263.
West Rowan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Robinson, their record is now 11-13.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Robinson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like West Rowan struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Robinson couldn't quite get it done against West Rowan in their previous meeting on April 8th as they fell 5-1. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
