Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is Chester's Fifth in Last Six Outings

Chester won against Gibault Catholic last Tuesday with 49 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Chester Yellowjackets snuck past the Sparta Bulldogs with a 49-43 win. This was a revenge game for the Yellowjackets: when they faced off against the Bulldogs back in January, they had to take a 45-35 defeat.

Despite the loss, Sparta saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Dariontez Monroe went 6-for-11 en route to 19 points. The matchup was Monroe's third in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Hayes, who posted seven points and six assists.

Chester is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-14 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points over those games. As for Sparta, they dropped their record down to 17-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Chester will take on Wesclin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sparta, they will square off against Red Bud at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sparta is facing Red Bud at the right time seeing as Red Bud is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
