The Basalt Longhorns were the 50-39 winner over the Coal Ridge Titans when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Basalt took a 53-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Coal Ridge on Saturday. Basalt just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Basalt lost, one person who can't be blamed is Luke Williams. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Loomis, who scored six points along with five assists.
Coal Ridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Simpson, who scored 15 points. Alex Cornejo was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Basalt has not been sharp recently as the team has lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Coal Ridge, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-9.
Basalt will head out on the road to take on Aspen at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Basalt focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday. As for Coal Ridge, they will be playing at home against Delta at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Coal Ridge is ranked 126th, while Delta is ranked 150th).
