Baseball Recap: Lake Forest Takes a Loss

Lake Forest dropped their record down to 5-7 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Odessa Ducks, falling 7-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Spartans were not able to get on the board.

As for Odessa, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games.

For Odessa's part, the result came thanks to Dylan Schimpf's shutout, as he gave up just two hits.

On the hitting side, Spencer Flayhart was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Odessa's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Crowe, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

While Lake Forest had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
