San Diego Academy and Mountain Empire are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The San Diego Academy Cavaliers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mountain Empire Redhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Empire took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on San Diego Academy, who comes in off a win.
San Diego Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 35-6 victory over King-Chavez Community on the road. That 29 points margin sets a new team best for San Diego Academy this season.
San Diego Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dustin Jewell out in front who scored eight points.
Mountain Empire suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 53-30 walloping at the hands of Bayfront Charter.
Despite their loss, Mountain Empire saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Andrew Sepulveda, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Sepulveda is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Corey Vann, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
San Diego Academy's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6. As for Mountain Empire, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
San Diego Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Mountain Empire in their previous matchup back in February of 2018, winning 68-60. Does San Diego Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mountain Empire turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
