Central is a perfect 10-0 against Auburn since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Red Devils will host the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Central comes in on nine and Auburn on three.
Central's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over Madison County.
Not much got past Kayla Storey, who gave up just five hits to keep Madison County off the board. Storey has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Central's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Allyson Supan, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Supan has posted over her last 12 games.
Meanwhile, Auburn won against Opelika on Tuesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Tigers came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 10-5.
Mary Alderson Grace was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Grace was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Auburn let Daley Alsobrook and Alivia Harris run wild. Alsobrook scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Harris went 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Laina Rae Sawyer, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Auburn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.
Auburn's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Central, their win bumped their record up to 25-3.
Central's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Red Devils have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Auburn, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Central continue to outrun the ball?
Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Auburn in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
