Softball Recap: Tunkhannock Makes It Nine in a Row at Home

It was a proper cat-fight when Tunkhannock took on Hazleton Area on Wednesday. The Tigers never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by seven runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Erin Van Ness, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Taryn Newswanger, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Tunkhannock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Tunkhannock pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Hazleton Area, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.

Coming up, Tunkhannock is taking a road trip to square off against Pittston at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hazleton Area, they will welcome Holy Cross at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
