Basketball Game Preview: Chancellor Chargers vs. Caroline Cavaliers

Chancellor and Caroline are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Chancellor Chargers will get right back to it and host the Caroline Cavaliers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Chancellor has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Caroline will arrive with five straight victories.

On Thursday, Chancellor came up short against James Monroe and fell 64-54. While the Chargers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Yellow Jackets 13-9 in the first quarter.

Despite their loss, Chancellor saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Xavier Heggie, who went 6 of 12 en route to 18 points and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Those 18 points gave Heggie a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Larell Edwards, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards.

Meanwhile, Caroline strolled past King George with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 61-43. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Foxes are ranked 363rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Caroline's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Chancellor, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.
