The South Lenoir Blue Devils will head out on the road to challenge the North Lenoir Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Lenoir is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
South Lenoir struggled with assists on Friday (East Duplin had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. South Lenoir took a serious blow against East Duplin, falling 54-11. While losing is never fun, South Lenoir can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 380th, while East Duplin is ranked 76th).
Katherine Thompson was South Lenoir's leading scorer, having posted seven points.
Gracie Tyndall held things down on the boards with five rebounds.
Tyazhia Midgett took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Meanwhile, North Lenoir slipped by James Kenan 39-38 on Friday. The victory was just what North Lenoir needed coming off of a 64-31 loss in their prior contest.
It was another big night for Shamaya Lynch, who scored 17 points along with two steals. Kristina Mewborn was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
South Lenoir has not been sharp recently as the team has lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for North Lenoir, their victory bumped their record up to 8-13.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: South Lenoir have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like North Lenoir struggles in that department as they've been averaging 20.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
South Lenoir didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against North Lenoir in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 29-24 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Lenoir since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
