The Lamar County Bulldogs and the Tanner Rattlers squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Lamar County Bulldogs had to settle for second. Lamar County fell 64-55 to Tanner. Yes, you read that score correctly, and yes, they were playing football.
Despite the loss, Lamar County still got an impressive performance from Jordan Godsey, who rushed for 309 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Godsey is absolutely dominating the rushing yard category: he's posted at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xander Bradford, who threw for 264 yards and a touchdown on only 19 passes.
Tanner's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karl Parham, who rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, and also threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns. Tanner also got help from Skylar Townsend who showed off his sure hands for 150 receiving yards.
Lamar County has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season. As for Tanner, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
Lamar County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Tanner will face off against Pisgah at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Pisgah's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
