You might not recognize the power rankings this week after a busy last week rearranged the teams a whole lot. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Welcome
Ponchatoula not only got the result it was looking for last game, but the team outscored its opponent Loranger in every quarter. Ponchatoula blew past Loranger 54 - 20. Ponchatoula especially relied on junior Tj Finley, who threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns, and senior Tyjae Spears, who ran for 161 yards and snatched up two receptions. The win also thrust Ponchatoula into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 18th spot.
Movin on Up
Holy Cross was the big favorite in its game against Covington last week, and for good reason. Holy Cross took its game against Covington by a confident 35 - 7 score. One of the main ringleaders for Holy Cross was junior Celven Hulbert, who rushed for 101 yards and one touchdown. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by 13, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between John Ehret (4th in the power rankings) and Destrehan (5th) did not disappoint. John Ehret narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past Destrehan 37 - 35. John Ehret and Destrehan were a much more even match than John Ehret's previous opponent, giving the fans a heck of a game.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Brother Martin (9th in the power rankings) and John Curtis Christian (2nd). Both teams are entering with last-week wins under their belts. Of course, Brother Martin and John Curtis Christian can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
