Two dominant guards in Jordan Pete and Aniyah Shields are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Sotomayor WILDCATS will head out to face off against the Warren Warriors at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Warren is hoping to do what Taft couldn't on Saturday: put an end to Sotomayor's winning streak, which now stands at four games. Sotomayor took their matchup with ease, bagging a 75-32 victory over Taft. Given the WILDCATS's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Raiders are ranked 890th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
12/14/24 vs Taft | 4 |

12/06/24 vs Holmes | 3 |

Sotomayor's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jah'Dae Bussey, who went 8 for 15 on her way to 26 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Bussey has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Pete, who went 8 for 16 on her way to 19 points in addition to six boards and five assists.
Sotomayor was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Taft only racked up ten assists.
Meanwhile, Warren had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Raiders as they made off with a 59-34 win.
Warren's win came from a few key players Sotomayor will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Shields, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Davis, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Warren pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Sotomayor, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sotomayor has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Warren struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Sotomayor came up short against Warren in their previous meeting back in January, falling 44-36. Can Sotomayor avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
