Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Indianapolis Bishop Chatard rose to the challenge on Monday. They never let the Techies get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Taylar Cody was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last six contests. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Kinsey Reed looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Anni Felts, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Anna Caskey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Indianapolis Bishop Chatard has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cathedral, their loss dropped their record down to 23-2.
Cathedral took their win against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard in their previous meeting on May 10th by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Irish since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
