Make it 15 blowout wins for the St. Mary's-Colgan Panthers this season. They claimed a resounding 53-24 win over Columbus on the road. St. Mary's-Colgan's victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Ellie Helms and Ava Harman certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Helms scored nine points along with two steals, while Harman scored three points. Helms has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Columbus struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
St. Mary's-Colgan's win was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-0. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 37.5 points. As for Columbus, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Mary's-Colgan will take on the Rams at TBD on Tuesday. Riverton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Panthers are ranked 47th). As for Columbus, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Golden Tornado at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th.
