The Needham Rockets will head out on the road to face off against the Weymouth Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
After only nine points in their last game, Needham made sure to put some points up on the board against Braintree on Friday. Needham was the clear victor by a 42-21 margin over Braintree. Given Needham's advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts football rankings (they are ranked 11th, while Braintree is ranked 64th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tate J Hoffmeister was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. J Hoffmeister is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Griffin Carr was another key contributor, throwing for 188 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Weymouth earned a 26-15 victory over Framingham on Friday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Weymouth.
Needham's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 6-1 Lincoln-Sudbury and 5-2 Natick (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.3% over those games). Weymouth has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in five of their first six matchups, giving them a 5-1 record.
Everything came up roses for Needham against Weymouth in their previous matchup back in September of 2022 as the squad secured a 27-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Needham since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
