Basketball Recap: Syracuse Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Syracuse had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 67-41 margin over the Deerfield Spartans. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 23 points or more this season.

Despite the defeat, Deerfield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cristian Botello went 6 for 9 en route to 14 points and three steals. What's more, Botello also posted a 67% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Michael Lira, who posted five points and five boards.

Syracuse's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Deerfield, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Syracuse will take on Greeley County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greeley County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Deerfield, they will challenge Pawnee Heights at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Deerfield is facing Pawnee Heights at the right time seeing as Pawnee Heights is stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
