It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Sheridan had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Lapel Bulldogs. This was a revenge game for the Blackhawks: when they faced off against the Bulldogs back in September, they had to take a 3-0 defeat.
Lainey Mendenhall paced Sheridan's offense, picking up 26 kills. Mendenhall got some help from Adria Jump and her 38 assists. Jump was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.
Despite the loss, Lapel saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Layla Graham had 20 digs and two aces. Those 20 digs set a new season-high mark for Graham.
Sheridan has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season. As for Lapel, they moved to 25-9 with that defeat, which also ended their six-match winning streak.
Sheridan didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Benton Central on the 25th. Lapel does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
