The Pleasant Valley Bears will face off against the Parkland Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pleasant Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Pleasant Valley took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Stroudsburg, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bears skirted past the Mountaineers 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted since April 19, 2024.
Lydia Borger was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma DePalma, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pleasant Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Parkland was a bit more limited in their game on Monday. They lost 15-2 to Emmaus. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Hornets recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Parkland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elizabeth Pinkham, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Pleasant Valley's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Parkland, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
Parkland's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Pleasant Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Parkland, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Pleasant Valley keep running through batters, or will the Trojans buck the trend?
Pleasant Valley beat Parkland 5-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
