The Grand County Red Devils will take on the Monticello Buckaroo at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Grand County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Grand County earned a 6-3 win over North Sevier. The Red Devils haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Hope Shumway spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on one hit.
On the hitting side, Bailey Altoff was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted over her last nine contests. Another player making a difference was Zoey Wilson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Grand County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 7-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Monticello was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 21st straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Milford, falling 15-0.
Monticello saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elise Taylor, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.
Grand County's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Monticello, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
Monticello's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grand County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .375. It's a different story for Monticello, though, as they've only averaged .147. Will they be able to contain Grand County's hitters?
Grand County took their victory against Monticello when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-0 score. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buckaroo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
