The Jersey Panthers will venture away from home to challenge the Civic Memorial Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Jersey is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
Calhoun hit Jersey with a four-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers came up short against the Warriors, falling 7-1.
Jersey saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maleah Derrick, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Civic Memorial came out on top against Highland on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Bulldogs. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by nine runs or more this season.
Megan Griffith made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Thien, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Allison Friedel was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Civic Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland only managed three hits.
Civic Memorial is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Jersey, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Jersey has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Civic Memorial struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Jersey came up short against Civic Memorial in their previous meeting on April 14th, falling 9-5. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
