On Friday, The Mound City Panthers faced the Rock Port Blue Jays in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Mound City came out on top against Rock Port by a score of 66-54. Yes, you read that score correctly, and yes, they were playing football.
Despite the loss, Rock Port still got an impressive performance from Corbyn Jakub, who rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Jakub is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last four games he's played. Dakota Evans also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
Mound City's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Rock Port, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Mound City is on the road again on Friday and play against South Holt. South Holt will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. Rock Port does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
