Indian Creek extended the longest winning streak in Mid-Indiana Football this week by beating North Decatur, 39-35. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Indian Creek and the Chargers played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Indian Creek eventually emerging with a 39-35 victory.
South Decatur's dynamic duo of Chris Johannigman and Matthew Gatewood proved tough for Milan to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Johannigman threw for 384 yards and two touchdowns and Gatewood had 95 yards receiving. Byron Balser helped South Decatur's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 90 yards.
Scott Pennington was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 194 yards on 25 carries as the Indians fell to the Indians. Teammate Gavin Detraz added to the ground attack by rushing for 74 yards.
South Decatur's Johannigman and Balser have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Mid-Indiana Football in both passing and receiving yards. Johannigman has thrown for 1832 yards this season, while Balser, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 43 catches for 627 yards. Jason Kirchhoff from North Decatur leads the league in rushing with 1162 yards.
Entering into this week's contest against Garry Sauley's team, Johannigman is short just 168 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Chargers take on the Cougars. North Decatur's offense has scored 230 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while South Decatur has allowed only 250 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Cougars take on the Chargers. As it stands, South Decatur is in fourth, while North Decatur is in first.
The Cougars made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,753 from 11,069. The improvement was the result of 35-26 victory over South Decatur last week.
