Highland Tech has struggled against Cherryville recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Highland Tech's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Elijah Whitted, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Garrick Spake who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Spake pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Cherryville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chancellor Hunt led the charge by scoring 16 points along with four steals and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Darrien Floyd, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Highland Tech has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Cherryville, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland Tech will take on Bessemer City at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bessemer City is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Cherryville, they will head out on the road to square off against NCSSM: Morganton at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
