Virginia City has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Pahranagat Valley Panthers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Virginia City is ranked second, while Pahranagat Valley is ranked fourth).
With a playoff game on the line, Virginia City rose to the challenge on Saturday. They managed a 28-24 win over Pyramid Lake.
Virginia City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Angel Hipolito led the charge by rushing for 192 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Virginia City also got a significant boost from Merrick Marotti, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 86 yards.
Meanwhile, Pahranagat Valley entered their tilt with Spring Mountain with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Everything went Pahranagat Valley's way against Spring Mountain on Friday as Pahranagat Valley made off with a 54-28 victory. Considering Pahranagat Valley has won seven matches by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Their wins bumped Virginia City to 9-1 and Pahranagat Valley to 7-2.
Virginia City was taken down by Pahranagat Valley 64-12 in their previous meeting back in November of 2021. Can Virginia City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
