Anna Kiel made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Amber Gnutek was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last eight contests. Another player making a difference was Jenna Sheehan, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Larkin made sure to put some runs up on the board against Aurora East on Monday. The Royals blew past the Tomcats 16-1.
Like South Elgin, Larkin also got a great game from a two-way player: Mackenzie Wemken. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wemken was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ali Herrick was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Yesenia Escobar also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
South Elgin pushed their record up to 22-4 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Larkin, their record now sits at 12-14.
Everything went South Elgin's way against Larkin in their previous meeting back in April, as South Elgin made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Storm since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
