North Schuylkill is a perfect 10-0 against Our Lady of Lourdes Regional since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Spartans will head out to challenge the Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
North Schuylkill had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Pottsville on Wednesday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Crimson Tide with a sharp 12-1 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Brigid Flynn made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two RBI, and one run.
In other pitching news, Olivia Jones looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, North Schuylkill let Monica Selgrade and Kylie Meskunas run wild. Selgrade scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Meskunas scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Selgrade also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Maria Monahan was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
North Schuylkill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pottsville only posted an OBP of .211.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Our Lady of Lourdes Regional). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Millville a 12-0 shutout on Monday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Red Raiders' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
North Schuylkill's record is now 5-1. As for Our Lady of Lourdes Regional, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
Our Lady of Lourdes Regional's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Schuylkill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .479. It's a different story for Our Lady of Lourdes Regional, though, as they've only averaged .308. Will they be able to contain North Schuylkill's hitters?
North Schuylkill took their win against Our Lady of Lourdes Regional in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 18-2 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Red Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
