The Denver Waldorf Spartans can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They came out on top against Aurora West College Prep Academy by a score of 24-16. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 22 to 11 on the offensive boards, as Denver Waldorf did.
Denver Waldorf got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kalyn Stanley out in front who scored five points along with 15 rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Stanley pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Q'Orianka Avant, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Aurora West College Prep Academy saw an underclassman step up: Maria Gutierrez scored seven points along with eight steals and six rebounds.
Denver Waldorf's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-9. As for Aurora West College Prep Academy, they dropped their record down to 0-19 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
Denver Waldorf will take on Flatirons Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Denver Waldorf comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Aurora West College Prep Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Sheridan at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Aurora West College Prep Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Monday.
