The Early Panthers will head out to challenge the New Covenant Academy Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Early is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Early will face New Covenant Academy after dropping another heartbreaker against Weaubleau on Tuesday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. The Panthers fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 6-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost three in a row.
Early saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cash Graves, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Landon Tomlinson was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, New Covenant Academy got the win against Galena on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Warriors have posted against the Bears since May 15, 2018.
Keilynn Armitage looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brighton Guisinger, who went 4-for-5 with six RBI, one run, and one double. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Keener, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
New Covenant Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
New Covenant Academy has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Early, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.
Early was able to grind out a solid victory over New Covenant Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, winning 5-1. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
