The Aquinas Fightin' Irish's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell 48-40 to Augusta Christian. Aquinas has not had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Emma Kate Noegel and Elizabeth Elliot certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Noegel dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 rebounds, while Elliot scored 14 points along with three steals. Noegel has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times she's played.
Augusta Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaylee Jackson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Jackson pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Taylor Booker, who scored four points along with ten rebounds.
Aquinas' defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Augusta Christian, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aquinas won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Washington-Wilkes is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Augusta Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Skyhawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hammond is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
