On Wednesday, the Newport Wildcats faced the Washington County Commanders in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Newport came out on top against Washington County by a score of 64-55. Winning may never get old, but Newport sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Leading Newport to victory were Tay Kinney and Deshaun Jackson jr. Kinney scored 19 points, while Jackson jr scored 17 points along with seven assists. The game was Kinney's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jabari Covington, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Newport's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Washington County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-1.
Newport won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Great Crossing at 7:30 p.m. on December 21st. One thing working in Great Crossing's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Washington County is on the road again on Saturday and play against Butler at 4:00 p.m. on December 23rd.
