Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Shades Valley

Shades Valley had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Ramsay Rams as they made off with a 21-12 win. The result was nothing new for the Mounties, who have now won five games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jenna Paxton made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Kharly DeLaine was a standout: she got on base in four of her six plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Maria Crider was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.

Shades Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ramsay only posted an OBP of .457.

Shades Valley's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.2 runs. As for Ramsay, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shades Valley will head out to square off against Fultondale at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ramsay will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Wenonah at 5:30 p.m. on April 2nd.
