Basketball Recap: Wheeler's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Wheeler lost against Calumet New Tech back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wheeler Bearcats fell 54-46 to the Calumet New Tech Warriors.

Despite the loss, Wheeler still got an impressive performance from Marek Barton, who went 5 of 12 en route to 11 points and five rebounds. What's more, Barton also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carter Blane, who posted seven points and nine boards.

Calumet New Tech's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Johnny Hudson led the charge by going 9 for 15 on his way to 24 points and eight rebounds. Hudson's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Eric Allen was another key player, going 5 of 12 en route to 15 points and seven boards.

Wheeler's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4. As for Calumet New Tech, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheeler will take on Hebron at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Hebron's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups. As for Calumet New Tech, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Calumet Christian at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Calumet New Tech is facing Calumet Christian at the right time seeing as Calumet Christian is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
