Ashley and East Columbus are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Screaming Eagle will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for Ashley: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while East Columbus has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Ashley turned things around against West Brunswick on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 6-2. The game was the first time the Screaming Eagle have beaten the Trojans on their field since April 14, 2022.
Vayda LeQuire was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Sawyer Rigdon was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.
LeQuire wasn't the only one making solid contact: Ashley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, East Columbus earned a 10-6 win over Whiteville on Friday. The Gators haven't had any issues with the Wolfpack recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Gracie Coyle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, East Columbus got a massive performance out of Mackenzi Clemmons, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna King, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
East Columbus' win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Ashley, their victory bumped their record up to 2-14.
Ashley beat East Columbus 8-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Screaming Eagle repeat their success, or do the Gators have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
