The Academy Wildcats struggled with assists on Thursday (the Peak to Peak Pumas had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. The Academy lost to Peak to Peak on the road by a decisive 66-48 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for The Academy in their matchups with Peak to Peak: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, The Academy still got an impressive performance from Trey Boychuk, who scored 15 points along with two steals. Dominik Konarski was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
The Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Peak to Peak's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tysen Burton, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Elijah Eschmeyer, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
The Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Peak to Peak, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7.
The Academy will be playing at home against Kent Denver at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kent Denver knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 17 matches -- so hopefully The Academy likes a good challenge. As for Peak to Peak, they will head out on the road to face off against Stargate School at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Peak to Peak focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday.
