The Whitharral Panthers can now show off 16 landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They blew past Amherst, posting a 60-10 victory at home. Given Whitharral's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 405th, while Amherst is ranked 1491st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Whitharral was led to victory by Paige Smith and Madi Chavez. Smith scored 17 points along with eight steals and six rebounds, while Chavez dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 steals. Rylee Kristinek was another key contributor, scoring four points.
The win makes it two in a row for Whitharral and bumps their season record up to 22-4. As for Amherst, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-16.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitharral will take on Meadow at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Amherst will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Clovis Christian at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. Clovis Christian's defense has only allowed 21.9 points per game this season, so Amherst's offense will have their work cut out for them.
