After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Winters, The East Nicolaus Spartans were happy to have found some success on Friday. They walked away with a 20-13 victory over Pierce. For East Nicolaus, this counts as revenge for the 35-14 loss Pierce walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2022.
East Nicolaus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Taylor led the charge by throwing for 236 yards and two touchdowns on only 19 passes, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Logan Cleary, who picked up 83 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Several Bears players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alfonso Orozco, who rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown.
East Nicolaus has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Pierce, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 5-3.
East Nicolaus will head out on the road to face off against Live Oak at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Live Oak is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Pierce, they will be playing at home against Durham at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Durham is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
