Even though the Stevens Falcons have not done well against the Warren Warriors recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Stevens managed a 52-47 victory over Warren. Given Stevens' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while Warren is ranked 601st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Amare Parham was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Ochoa, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nickolai Ochoa, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Ochoa scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Anthony Castaneda, who scored 17 points.
Stevens' victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 14-10. As for Warren, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-18.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Sotomayor the next time they take the court. Warren will host Sotomayor at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Stevens will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
