The Lapel Bulldogs will face off against the New Castle Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Lapel is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
On Tuesday, Lapel didn't have too much trouble with Yorktown as they won 54-40.
It was another big night for Laniah Wills, who dropped a double-double with 30 points and 19 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Lapel's points. Another player making a difference was Serenity Conyers, who posted 12 points and five steals.
Lapel was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yorktown only racked up one.
Meanwhile, New Castle suffered their closest loss since November 23, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of New Palestine by a score of 46-44. The Trojans have struggled against the Dragons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Lapel will need to focus on slowing down Megan Luce, one of several New Castle players who made an impact when they last played. She scored six points and five assists. Luce is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Mallory Owens was another key player, putting up seven points.
New Castle's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Lapel, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Lapel has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.8 boards per game. However, it's not like New Castle struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 26.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Lapel against New Castle when the teams last played back in December of 2020, as the team secured a 62-32 win. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
