Leigh is 8-2 against Branham since February of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. Even though Evergreen Valley scored an imposing 64 points on Friday, Leigh still came out on top. Leigh took their matchup against Evergreen Valley 72-64.
Leigh got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Caleb Asante out in front who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Asante is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Smith, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Branham strolled past Oak Grove with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 60-46. Given Branham's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Oak Grove is ranked 605th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leigh is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Branham, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-1.
Leigh and Branham were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but Leigh came up empty-handed after a 70-69 loss. Can Leigh avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
