Springville is a perfect 3-0 against Pleasant Grove since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Red Devils will be playing at home against the Vikings at 3:30 p.m. Springville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Springville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Salem Hills, who was ranked second at the time (Springville was ranked 18th). The Red Devils took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Skyhawks on Tuesday. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Springville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Fairbourne, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Timpview on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-8 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vikings considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Olivia Barnes tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
On the hitting side, Mia Hernandez was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Mary Severe, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Pleasant Grove's victory bumped their record up to 6-17. As for Springville, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-8.
Pleasant Grove's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Springville has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Pleasant Grove, though, as they've been averaging 10.7 hits. Given Springville's sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Springville was able to grind out a solid win over Pleasant Grove in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-3. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
