Baseball Recap: Chaparral Drops Highest Score of Season Against Silver

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chaparral). They put the hurt on the Silver Fighting Colts with a sharp 23-9 victory on Tuesday. The Lobos have beaten the Fighting Colts the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Fighting Colts has come to flipping the script.

Israel Nieto and Justin Castillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Nieto tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Castillo tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Nieto has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Nieto went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Castillo got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four RBI gave Nieto a new career-high.

In other batting news, Chaparral got a massive performance out of Michael Molina, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Molina has hit this season. Robert Ramos was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Chaparral kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Chaparral's record now sits at 13-11. As for Silver, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-17.

Coming up, Silver will face off against Socorro at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Fighting Colts are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. Chaparral will be paying especially close attention to Silver's match: after Silver faces off against Socorro, they'll take on Chaparral again at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
