Lincoln North Star is 1-7 against the Thunderbolts since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lincoln North Star Navigators will look to defend their home court against the Pius X Thunderbolts at 5:45 p.m. Lincoln North Star will be looking to keep their 13-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Lincoln North Star stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 73-13 victory over Fremont at home. Given Lincoln North Star's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Tigers are ranked 215th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lincoln North Star found their leader in underclassman Kaytee Irons-Buettner, who scored 17 points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Ani Leu, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Pius X didn't have too much trouble with the Bearcats at home on Tuesday as they won 49-32. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Pius X.
Sara Iburg continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with seven rebounds. Brynn Sebek was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Lincoln North Star's win bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Pius X, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Lincoln North Star have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 43.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Pius X struggles in that department as they've made 38.9% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Lincoln North Star won a match that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in February of 2023, slipping by the Thunderbolts 36-35. Will Lincoln North Star repeat their success, or do the Thunderbolts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
