The Churubusco Eagles will square off against the West Noble Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
West Noble will be up against a hot Churubusco squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Eagles breezed past Central Noble to the tune of 62-3 on Friday. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-3.
Churubusco got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Colt Singleton out in front who rushed for 65 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries. Singleton didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble, made seven total tackles, and defended one pass.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Churubusco proved: they limited Central Noble to a paltry 0.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Jack Huelsenbeck for the heroic effort on defense: he. Churubusco's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.68 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 8.53 on average over their last five games.
Churubusco didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Carson Tonkel and Bryce Lawrence.
Meanwhile, West Noble was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Lakeland 34-7. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Lakers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
West Noble's win came from a few key players Churubusco will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Trey Shisler, who rushed for 36 yards and one score, and also threw for 124 yards and one TD. Another player making a difference was Xy'Mire Barnes-Bridges, who rushed for 72 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries.
One reason for the win was West Noble's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Brogan Parks was the leader with two. Xavier Yates was another major factor on D, making nine total tackles and snagged an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.
Churubusco's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for West Noble, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Churubusco has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 224 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like West Noble struggles in that department as they've been averaging 152 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Churubusco was taken down by West Noble 58-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Eagles, Estil Pruitt (who rushed for 142 yards and three scores while picking up 8.4 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
