The New Fairfield Rebels will head out on the road to face off against the New Milford Green Wave at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Last Monday, New Fairfield was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 31-27 to Newtown. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points New Fairfield has scored all season.
Meanwhile, New Milford had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.5 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. They snuck past Notre Dame Catholic with a 41-37 win. Given New Milford's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Notre Dame Catholic is ranked 91st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Fairfield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for New Milford, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4.
New Fairfield came up short against New Milford in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 42-29. Can New Fairfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
