Floresville has gone a perfect 6-0 against Devine recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Tigers/Jaguars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warhorses at 7:00 p.m. Floresville's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Devine's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Floresville fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Pleasanton on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 3-2. The Tigers/Jaguars' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Floresville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaden Moreno, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Devine waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Mavericks with a sharp 13-2 win.
Henry Ramirez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Devine is 4-1 when Ramirez allows one or fewer earned runs, but 6-12-1 otherwise. Ramirez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Rudy Costilla was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Karter Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two doubles.
Devine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Devine's victory bumped their record up to 10-13-1. As for Floresville, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-10.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Floresville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Devine struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Floresville skirted past Devine 4-2 when the teams last played on April 1st. Do the Tigers/Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warhorses turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
