The Stark County Rebels will head out to challenge the ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Stark County has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Stark County managed to slip by Brimfield the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Rebels lost 18-2 to the Indians on Wednesday.
Stark County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Daum, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, ROWVA/Williamsfield entered their tilt with Peoria Christian on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Chargers with a sharp 13-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Drake DeJaynes made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. DeJaynes was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Talan Hull was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Preston Schroeder also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
ROWVA/Williamsfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peoria Christian only posted a batting average of .250.
ROWVA/Williamsfield pushed their record up to 15-12 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Stark County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season.
Everything went Stark County's way against ROWVA/Williamsfield when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Stark County made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
