The Paulding Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Ayersville Pilots at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Paulding is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Monday. Paulding came up short against Parkway, falling 18-10. Paulding's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Paulding got a massive performance out of Civil Pumphrey, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Isa Burtch also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Meanwhile, Ayersville had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. The Pilots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Kendra Waldron made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Aeriel Brown was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Daniella Coble was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Ayersville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Defiance only managed five hits.
Paulding's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Ayersville, their record is now 8-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Paulding hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Ayersville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Paulding came up short against Ayersville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 8-3. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
