Last Thursday, Pahrump Valley beat Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas 47-38. Given Pahrump Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas is ranked 48th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pahrump Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paris Coleman led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Heaven Cooper, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Moapa Valley put the finishing touches on their 14th blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 64-14 victory over Cristo Rey St. Viator on the road. The win was familiar territory for Moapa Valley who now have five in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Moapa Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Claire Cox, who scored 12 points along with four steals and two blocks. Cox hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Savanna Burt was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight assists and five steals.
Pahrump Valley's victory bumped their record up to 21-1. As for Moapa Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Pahrump Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Moapa Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
